So They Got Flowers.............

So They Got Flowers.............

When it comes to sending flowers, the anticipation of the recipient’s surprise and excitement when they receive their delivery is way up there. Before digital photography and especially before camera phones, the sender would probably never see what a faraway loved one received. Nowadays, with the help of technology, it feels nice to know that what you sent has had the intended impact. But what happens when you’re sent a quick snap from the recipient and it doesn’t look like you had imagined?

Well, there are several factors to consider here. First of all, bear in mind that real life is three-dimensional, and so are real flower arrangements. Arrangements may appear to be smaller in reality when compared to the two-dimensional photo on the website. Pictures on the website are taken by a photographer, and with a professional camera. A traditional camera has a much larger sensor, in comparison to a smartphone. The larger the sensor, the bigger the surface area available to capture light on, and thus the better quality of image. In comparison, photos taken indoors at home, under standard household lamps, can make the colours look off, or too dark, and the image can appear blurred or distorted. Camera distortion warps proportions. Ever taken a bad selfie?

Also consider that photos on a website are angled and cropped to focus entirely on the arrangement. When you take a photo in your home, the image may be cluttered with whatever else is in the background. This creates a distraction and can distort or affect the sense of scale, often resulting in a misrepresentation of the arrangement.

Another point to remember is that website images show fully bloomed flowers. Often we will send an arrangement with flowers budding or just starting to bloom so that the recipient is able to enjoy the blooming process for the longest period possible. This can make the arrangement appear to be smaller or less “full” at first.

Sometimes, a recipient may decide to split their flowers and arrange them into several vases themself. This often happens when a large hand-tied bouquet  is sent and the recipient does not have a vase big enough to accommodate it. The arrangements are designed to be displayed as a “whole”, and therefore, once split or rearranged, will look completely different to the website image and intended design. If you are considering sending a large arrangement, we suggest ordering flowers designed directly into a vase.

So, what to do to make sure your intended receives a beautiful arrangement? First off, ask for a “Designer’s choice” option when ordering. Our talented team will choose the freshest, most seasonal flowers that will give you the biggest bang for your buck. You can either give us free rein and choose our GWYG (Get What You Get) option, or, if you’d like a little more input, choose according to colour palette and style. Either way, we’ll be delighted to work our floral magic and create something special for you. Visit oleander.ca or give us a call on (416) 236 8273. And, if you’re the recipient, ditch the dodgy photo and send a good old-fashioned thank you note instead!

We at Oleander pride ourselves on delivering excellent value for money. Together with our unique design skills, superior product, and exceptional customer service, we want to make sure all our customers are happy. If, for any reason, there is a concern with your order, please don’t hesitate to contact us at the shop.

Please remember that the pictures on our website are for illustration purposes. They give an idea of colour harmony and Oleander’s style. Please bear in mind that the actual product may differ due to availability, made even more difficult at this time due to COVID-19. We thank you for trusting us with your order and for shopping local.
