This Friday August 26 we’ll be celebrating all things canine here at Oleander in honour of International Dog Day! We love our doggos here at the shop, and it appears we’re not alone as figures show the second most owned pet in Canada is the dog!
Established in 2004, and intended to raise awareness about the large number of dogs in rescue shelters, International Dog Day is an opportunity to embrace dog breeds of all types and promote a safe, happy and abuse-free life for hounds everywhere.
Unconditional love, devoted companionship, not to mention constant entertainment, dogs give their humans so much. And, as any dog owner will tell you, dogs truly make us happier and healthier! Many studies have shown that owning a dog is good for both your physical and mental health. Even just petting a dog has the ability to lower blood pressure and heart rate, slow breathing, and relax tensed muscles. Studies also show that dog owners have a lower risk of death and are better able to cope with stress. A 2019 British study discovered that dog owners are nearly four times more likely than non-dog owners to meet daily physical activity guidelines. So that daily walk in the park is doing you more good than you think!
A four-footed best friend also provides unconditional love and support, which is especially important during tough times. So, to celebrate all things dog, we’ve put together a list of our favourite pooch-themed products available to buy in store or online right now:
